Landscape Design
A: Hi, monika, where did you go last weekend? You didn’t come to our cocktail party.
B: Oh, I’m sorry that I couldn’t join your party. In fact, I went to SuZhou with my boss for some business.
A: Why you went to SuZhou? That’s really a long distance from Beijing. B: Well, you know, I’m a landscape designer, and I really interested in cities’ landscape design. So this is a great opportunity. A: How was the trip?
B: Quite good. The SuZhou government did a good job in landscape design. They put a lot of money on protecting gardens and structures every year. If you walking in the city, you may think that you are staying in a big garden. That’s so…luxurious, but necessary.
A: Yes, I know SuZhou can be a model city in landscape design. As what you said, the government put a lot of money on protecting and designing work, so the city is just like a big garden. However, in my opinion, that’s needless luxury.
B: Needless luxury? Sorry I don’t catch you. Don’t you think that cities need beautiful public places?
A: It is necessary for a city to have some beautiful public places. Not only for citizens, butalso for tourists. Citizens can live in a comfortable place, moreover, beautiful public places can leave tourists good impression.
That’s all good for a city’s development.
B: Of course beautiful public places are good for city’s development. Everyone enjoys seeing beautiful scene, so the landscape design is obviously necessary. Why you consider it as needless luxury things? A: Well, though the landscape design is necessary, the inner establish are much more important. If I have as much money as our government have, I’d like to use them in improving our polity system, improving the social welfare, developing public transportation, making our citizens’ life become more an more convienient. Those things are important than landscape design. Will you agree with me?
B: Maybe I was influenced by my majority too much. As for me, it is okay if I just have one meal per day, but I can’t stand bad scene. I love beautiful things, no matter how much money should I pay on them. A wonderful landscape design can be the soul of the city, it won’t be needless luxury.
A: Oh, it seems that I can’t persuade you change your views.
B: So do I. We have the freedom to express our thoughts, but we don’t need to change others’ ideas.
