Teaching Steps Part I. Check out their homework Part II : Let’s talk—Advertising techniques Step 1. After the students’ discussion, you may summarize that a person’s personality and character, including such qualities as kindness, loyalty to one’s spouse and sense of humor, are often especially valued in many countries throughout the world. 1. What do you think about the advertising techniques in the passage? Which feature or features are especially important? 2. What other techniques can you think of to make an appealing advertisement? 备注 ·Simple language 教 学 进 程 与 设 计 ·appealing to emotions (love, respect, sense of security, desire for success, self-fulfillment, love of beauty) ·clear ·directly related to the product ·about its good points ·vivid language Step 2.Work in pairs and discuss factors that make a song popular. You may refer to the following tips, though you are not limited to them. · A successful advertisement should have these characteristics: · It uses simple language and is easy to understand. (Most people don’t have time to red complicated ads.) ·It clearly refers to the product being advertised. ·It advertises the good points of the product such as easy operation, good effects and low prices. ·It uses vivid language devices such as an unusual way of saying things, parallel structure, comparison, exaggeration, the use of an idiom, etc. ·It appeals to consumers’ emotions so that they will act and buy the product.

Step 3. Design an advertisement Work in three group Part III: Step 4: Further listening and speaking 备注 Listening: Listening exercises in this part are optional. Either use them in class or assign them as homework.. 教 学 进 程 与 设 计 Speaking: 1.Advise students to read aloud the story several times and try to remember the plot or some key words. 2.Alternatively, students can do the retelling with their roommates after class and give each other some advice on how to improve. 3.Students can also record their retelling and do the evaluation by themselves.
