A

I think a close friend is someone you get on really well with, who helps you when you have problems, who gives you advice, and who always has time for you.I didn’t use to have many close friends when I was at school or at university as I was very shy,but now I have several. They are all women—I think it’s difficult to have a close friend of the opposite sex (异性).

—Marie

I don’t really have any close friends.I know a lot of people but mainly through work, and the kind of social occasions when we meet are business dinners and evening parties.I think if you come from a really close family, then friends are a bit unnecessary.During the little free time I have I prefer to spend with my family.

—Richard

I think a close friend is someone who you’ve known for a long time, and who you still get on with. They probably have similar hobbies to you so you can do things together.I’ve got three close friends when I was at high school and we often go out together (without our parents of course). We always go camping and somewhere we can go walking, play football and be outside in the open air.

—David

For me close friends are the people you spend your free time with.I go out at weekends with a group of people—there are about seven of us,and I’d say we are all close friends. We also live near each other.I don’t think you can have close friends at a distance; you need to be able to see each other often. But I don’t think you need to be doing the same things.I mean I’m at university but none of my friends are.

—Anna

2.What do we know about Anna’s friends? A.They are college students.

B.They are doing the same things.

C.They don’t live far away. D.They don’t see each other often. 根据末段中的“We also live near each other.” 3.Who has more friends now than before? A.Anna. 根据首段中的“I didn’t use to have many close friends”和“but now I have several”可知,Marie现在的朋友比以前多。

B

B.David.

C.Richard.

D.Marie.

Saturday,11 July,1942 Dear Kitty,

Daddy,Mummy and Margot can’t get used to the sound of the Westertoren clock yet, which tells us the time every quarter of an hour.I can.I loved it from the start, and especially in the night it’s a faithful friend.I expect you will be interested to hear what it feels like to “disappear”; well, all I can say is that I don’t know myself yet.I don’t think I shall ever feel really at home in this house, but that does not mean that I hate it here.It is more like being on vacation in a very strange boarding house.Rather a mad idea, perhaps, but that is how it strikes me.The “Secret Annexe” is an ideal hiding place.Although it is damp(潮湿的),you’d never find such a comfortable hiding place anywhere in the whole of Holland. Our little room looked very empty at first with nothing on the walls; but thanks to Daddy who had brought my film-star collection and picture postcards on beforehand, and with the aid of paste pot(浆糊) and brush,I have changed the walls into one big picture.

Margot and Mummy are a little bit better now.Mummy felt well enough to cook some soup for the first time yesterday, but then forgot all about it,while she was downstairs talking,so the peas were burned to a cinder and refused to leave the pan.I went to the private office yesterday evening and turned on the radio.I was so terribly frightened that someone might hear it that I simply begged Daddy to come upstairs with me.Mummy understood how I felt and came too.We are very nervous in other ways, too, that the neighbors might hear us or see something going on.We made curtains straight away on the first day.

Someone is calling me.

Yours, Anne

4.What did Anne do with the walls?

A.She painted them white with the help of her dad.

B.She decorated them with picture postcards.

C.She drew colorful pictures on them. D.She covered them with old curtains. 根据第一段最后一句中的“thanks to Daddy who had brought my film-star collection and picture postcards on beforehand, and with the aid of paste pot and brush,I have changed the walls into one big picture”可知选B项。

5.What can we know about Anne according to Paragraph 1? A.She disliked the hiding place. B.She disliked the Westertoren clock. C.She missed her hometown in Holland. D.She tried to make the room more homelike.

6.What does the underlined part “were burned to a cinder” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A.The peas were overcooked. B.The peas were served slowly. C.The peas tasted strange. D.The peas looked ugly. 根据上文的“forgot all about it”和下文的“refused to leave the pan”可知,豌豆糊锅了。 7.Which of the following words can best describe Anne? A.Careful and helpful. B.Creative and patient. C.Adaptable and sensitive. D.Warm-hearted and easy-going. 面对着如此境地,Anne没有怨天尤人,而且很快适应了新的环境,第一段的“that does not mean that I hate it here”和“a good hiding place”都说明她适应力强。

C

Reducing class size has traditionally been seen as an important way to improve a student’s educational experience.

Many public opinion studies have shown that both teachers and parents favor smaller class sizes.Teachers who go on strike are often seeking lower classroom numbers, among other better working conditions. Many often believe that smaller classes would permit teachers to give more personal attention to their students. This can theoretically lead to improved academic results for students.

But one recent study suggests there is not much research-based evidence to support this idea.
