His room was beautiful, and the restaurant served very good food. In fact, the dinner there that night was delicious. But when he came back from the meeting on the second day, he found his room empty. All his things had disappeared. After checking that he was in the right room, he rushed down to reception. He was really worried because he thought he had been robbed. When he got to reception, he said, “My room’s empty! All my things have been stolen!” But the receptionist said very politely, “Oh, very sorry,
sir. That was a little mistake of ours. We thought you were leaving the hotel this morning, so we packed your things and took the suitcase downstairs, so that the cleaners could clean the room for the next guest. Then we realized we had made a mistake. Here’s your case.” And she handed Jack the case with all the things just thrown inside, all in a mess. Jack was very angry, and immediately asked to see the manager. 15. T 16. F

One Christmas Eve five weeks ago, an English couple, the Hardens, got a very special call. It lasted only 20 seconds, but it was very important. The Hardens’ 15-year-old daughter had gone away six months before. On Christmas Eve she rang them. “I’m phoning to wish you a happy Christmas,” she said. “I love you.”
The Hardens were very happy, so they started a special telephone service called “Alive and Well”. The service helps parents get in touch with their children who have run away from home.
Young people can phone “Alive and Well” and leave a message for their parents. The telephones are answered by answering machines. So no one can speak to the child or make him return home. Parents of runaway children who are over 18 can ask the police to bring their children home. Through “Alive and Well”, runaway children can leave a message for their parents without worrying about giving out their addresses.
The Hardens write down the children’s words and connect the addresses given. About 30,000 British teenagers have left home and many of them are probably in London. For only two pence they can go into a telephone coin box. They can dial 5675339 and stop the parents’ worry: is my child alive or dead? 21. 20 seconds down
