BEIJING, April 14 (Xinhua) -- CHINESE people are getting bigger. About 342 million Chinese people were overweight in 2013, said a new report. It listed China as the second most overweight country, after the

US.

About 23 percent of Chinese boys under 20 were overweight, while for girls it was 14 percent.

Part of the reason lies in our growing economy (经济), China Daily reported. Chinese families now make enough money to buy more food, especially fatty foods such as meat. In 1980, the average(平均) person in China ate 12kg of meat. The number increased to 60kg in 2013.

Many people also eat at fast food stores a lot. They take in a lot of high-calorie foods but exercise little.

Unhealthy lifestyles can cost people their lives. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 2.8 million adults die each year because of obesity-related (与肥胖有关的) diseases such as heart disease and cancer.

“To stay in shape, people should eat less sugar and fat,” suggested Francesco Branco, a WHO official. People should take in less soda, soft drinks, candy and red meat.

And remember to take regular exercise to burn extra calories, suggested the American Heart Association. Children need to do at least an hour of exercise every day, such as playing sports on the playground.

Am I overweight?

We often use BMI(体质指数) to check our health. BMI = weight (kg) / height (m). If your BMI is 18.5-25, you are healthy. If it’s 25-30, you are overweight. If it’s more than 30, you’re far too fat.

What do your dream mean?

Have you ever found yourself doing an exam in the middle of the sea with your favorite film star? Don’t worry, it’s only a dream! But what do your dreams say about you? Here is a fun guide to explaining them.

Being chased

If you dream someone is trying to catch you, you are worried about something in the future that you don’t feel ready for yet.

Falling

“Falling dreams” are also related to worry. You might be going the wrong way or you might be in danger.

Death

This doesn’t mean you are going to die — relax! You are going through some kinds of change in your life.

Teeth falling out

You might be shy or you might think you’re a loser. Something is certainly troubling you!

Being locked in

If you dream that you are in a room and you can’t get out, you may be feeling uncomfortable in a relationship –maybe with a parent, a friend or a cousin. You can’t be yourself in this relationship and want to get out of the situation.

Finding money

You are looking for something! If you dream you find gold coins, this means you will find some success in real life.

It is, however, important to realize that different people and even different cultures, all have different ways of explaining dreams. One thing that appears to be a common belief, though, is that dreams work in opposites.

New rules and behavior standards for middle school students came out in March. Middle schools are going to use a new way to decide who the top students are. The best students won’t only have high marks. They will also be kids who don’t dye(染) their hair. The following are some of the new rules.

Tell the truth. Have you ever copied someone else’s work on an exam? Don’t do it again! That’s not something an honest student should do. If you have played computer games for two hours in your room, don’t tell your parents you have done homework.

Do more at school. Good students love animals and care for other people. April is Bird-loving month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate? You should join! In that way, you can learn more about animals and how to protect them. When more people work together, it makes it more fun for everyone. Have you ever quarreled with your teammates when your basketball team lost? Only working together can make your team stronger. Be friendly to the people you are with. Try to think of others, not only yourself.

Be open to new ideas. Have you ever thought that people could live on the moon? Maybe you’ll discover Earth Ⅱ some day. Don’t look down on new ideas. Everyone’s ideas are important. You should welcome them, because new ideas make life better for everyone.

Protect yourself. Has someone ever taken money from one of your classmates? Don’t let it happen to you. If you have to go home late, you should let your parents know.

Use the Internet carefully. The Internet can be very useful for your studies. But some things on the Internet aren’t for kids, so try to look at web pages that are good for you. You can use the web for fun or homework. Can’t you find any good websites for children? Here are some: Http:// kids.eastday.com, Http://www. chinakids. net. com, http://www. cycnet.com.
