Many winters ago I was working at a community college when a homeless woman came in wearing only a slip on and a hospital bracelet. She started coughing as she laid back on a sofa in the student lounge (休息室). Clearly, she wasn't well.

Without thinking too much about it I went to the Student Affairs office where I knew I could find clothes in the “Lost and Found” box. I gathered her up an entire outfit (全套装备) and made my way back. That's when a co-worker told me I should not help this person, as it would only lead to her wanting more help. I ignored her and carried on, despite the warnings.

Two weeks later a lovely elderly man came to my office and asked to speak with me in private. Curious, I gave him my full attention. He continued to tell me that he had overheard the conversation with the co-worker about helping the sick woman. He wanted me to know that it was always okay to help people, and that was why he wanted to give me a check for D|S1,000!

I burst into tears, because I really needed the money at the time, but also because I had never been recognized in such a way for helping someone!

This man and I became firm friends and, twenty years later, he called me up out of the blue and told me he wanted to help me buy my first home! He ended up giving me D|S120,000 with no strings attached, as a down payment to buy my dream house in my hometown.

I asked him why he wanted to give me such a large gift and he said it was because I was a “giver” and that I deserved it.

To_make_a_long_story_short,_I was able to buy the perfect little home for me, all because one day I did not hesitate to help a homeless woman.

Almost everyone has heard about the Taj Mahal in India. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. Over three hundred years ago, Shah Jehan built the Taj Mahal as the tomb for his wife. Shah Jehan wanted his wife's tomb perfect. He did not care about time or money. He brought together workmen from all Asia. Altogether, over 20,000 men worked on the buildings, and it took them twenty-two years to finish it.

The building rests on a platform (平台) of red sandstone. Four thin white towers rise from the corner of the platform. A large dome (圆屋顶) rests from the center of the building. Around this large dome there are four smaller ones.

The building is made of fine white and colored marble(大理石). It has eight sides and many arches. There is an open corridor (走廊) just inside the outer walls. From this corridor, the visitor looks through the marble screen to a central room. The bodies of Shah Jehan and his wife lie in a tomb below this room.

A beautiful garden surrounds the Taj Mahal. The green trees make the marble look even whiter. In front of the main entrance to the building there is a long, narrow pool. If you look in this pool, you can see all the beauty of the Taj Mahal in the reflection (倒影) from the water.
