Courses in American High Schools
Let me tell you something about the courses (课程) in American high schools. In the schools most students there take English, science, math, and history. These are called basic (基础的) courses and each of them is as useful as the others are.
In English classes, the American students study grammar and read famous literature (文学作品). In science classes, they study biology, chemistry (化学) or physics and so on. History is more interesting to some students because they learn about important and significant (有意义的) events and places in the USA in history.
Also, students take other courses, too. These are called elective (选择性的) courses. Students can choose homers (家政学), computer science, etc. Students do not have to take all of these courses. Some study music because they feel it more enjoyable and they like it very much.. Some study computer science because they think it more useful.
In each class, in both basic courses and elective courses, I mean, teachers give students exams and tests. Some exams and tests are quite difficult, but a good and hardworking student can always do well. Don’t you think so? I hope you will agree with me.
