Abstract: Traditional festivals between Chinese and Western have many differences,
such as, Spring Festival in China, Christmas Day in western countries. This essay probes into the differences and blending between Chinese and Western cultures through traditional festivals. First, they are distinctly different in their origins. The festivals in China mainly stem from seasons and solar periods, which are closely related to agriculture, and is a folk traditional cultural of thousands of years. The festivals in western countries generally stem from religion and its relative events. Second, they are apparently different in their customs. When celebrating the festivals, the Chinese tend to focus more attention on eating and drinking, the reason why is people hoping to have a good life in this world; Religion is strong colors in western festivals; and their worship the God very mach and the purpose is to help people who need help. In the era of globalization, due to the development and intensification in economic and cultural exchanges, we can feel the quick step of Chinese-western culture communication from the people’s celebration on each other’s festivals. The people of both sides accept and adore each other’s traditional festivals，and to help language learners and the Western nations to strengthen communication and understanding.

春节，西方的圣诞节。本文将从传统节日中看中西文化差异与交融。第一，由传统节日的起源看中西文化差异。中国的传统节日主要源于岁时节令，具有浓厚的农业色彩几千年流传下来的民间传统。西方的传统节日主要源于宗教及相关事件，都带有浓厚的宗教色彩。第二，从节日习俗中看中西文化差异。中国的传统节日习俗主要以吃喝饮食为主题，其主要原因是企望能今生过上美好的生活；在西方节日宗教色彩较强，人们在节日里崇拜上帝并且在节日中以向需要帮助的人伸出援助之手目的。从中国人过西方节日及外国人过中国节，我们感到中西文化交流加快的脚步。在全球化时代，由于经济、文化的发展与深化，中西传统节日逐渐被双方人民相互包容接纳，有助于语言学习者与西方各民族加强

A. The major festivals of China
As is known to everybody Chinese major traditional festivals are: the Spring Festival, the Qing Ming Festival, Double-Seventh Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and so on. Most of these festivals are national holidays, in addition to the Han, there are more than 20 ethnic minorities of these festivals, and these national traditional festivals in contemporary Chinese society have a distinct representation.
