I was having a great morning until I sat down in front of my office computer. “Your password has run out,” a server message flashed on my screen, with instructions for changing it. Coming up with a new code doesn’t seem like a big deal unless you work at my company, where we have to change it monthly, using at least one

uppercase(大写的) character, one lowercase character, one symbol, and one number. Oh, and the whole thing can’t be fewer than eight characters. And I can’t use any of the same passwords I’ve used in the past three months.
Suddenly I was cross. What didn’t make it any better was that I was deeply depressed after my recent divorce. The flashing cursor(光标) was still waiting for me to type a password that I’d have to re-enter many times for the next 30 days. I remembered a tip from my former boss: I’m going to use a password to change my life.
I decided to choose a password, which would remind me that I shouldn’t let myself be a victim of my recent breakup and that I was strong enough to do something about it. I made my password Forgive@h3r.
I had to type this statement several times a day. Each time my computer would lock. Each time my screen saver with her photo would appear. Each time I would come back from eating lunch alone. In my mind, I wrote “forgive her” every day.
The simple action changed the way I looked at my ex-wife. That constant reminder led me to accept the way things had happened at the end of my marriage and adopt a new way of dealing with my depression. As the month went on, I felt slow healing began to take place. By the time my server reminded me to reset my password the following month, I felt free.

D.To protect his computer against hacker attacks. 27.What is the best title of the passage? _______ A.Learn the Best Way to Deal with Depression B.Choose a Suitable Password for Your Computer C.How a Password Changed My Life D.What an Unsuccessful Marriage Taught Me

To be popular is increasingly becoming the great desire among the young. The desire to be popular can force you into looking and acting like everyone else. You can lose yourself in a sea of identical hairstyles and thinking styles.
I was forced to think about popularity not too long ago in a talk I had with my daughter. Margy had to change schools when my busy work schedule made it necessary for me to move houses. I suppose that, for a girl in her teens, entering a new school is about as easy as spending a season alone in the tropical jungles. At least that’s how Margy found it at first. However, as the school year drew to a close, one student after another came to her. They said they would have liked to be friends sooner.

I told Margy that I would have been more concerned if she had been an instant social success in her new school. That, to me, would have been proof that she had betrayed oneself in order to become popular. Nobody can please everyone. If you try to do so, you will find values as lasting as soap bubbles blown into the air.
Some teenagers claim they want to dress as they please. But they all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music. But somehow they all end up listening to the same record. Their reason for thinking or acting in a certain way is that the crowd is doing it. They have come out of their cocoon(茧) into a larger cocoon.
I know that it has become harder for a young person to stand up against the popularity wave. Our way of life makes a young nonconformist stand out like a Martian(火星人). These days there’s a great barrier for the young person who wants to find his or her own path. But the barrier is worth climbing over. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. Well, go for it. Find yourself. Popularity will come with the people who respect you for who you are. That is the only kind of popularity that really counts.
28.Which of the following statements is true? _______
A.Some teenagers tend to show their uniqueness but end up behaving the same way. B.Real popularity comes only when you respect others. C.Margy changed schools to find her true self.
D.At first, the author thought it hard for Margy to enter new school. 29.What does the author think of some teenagers? _______ A.They lack the courage to be truly different. B.They find it hard to gain popularity as expected. C.They’re afraid of getting lost in life.
D.They have difficulty understanding each other.
30.What is the probable meaning of the underlined word “nonconformist” in paragraph 5? _______ A.Someone who behaves in his own way. B.Someone who wants to please others. C.Someone who cares about others’ opinion. D.Someone who desires popularity greatly.
31.What is the author^ purpose of writing this passage? _______ A.To criticize the present values and beliefs.
B.To show people how to get along with their close friends. C.To persuade readers to pursue valuable popularity. D.To tell parents how to educate and guide their children.

For decades, there has been a puzzle for people why elephants do not develop cancer even though they have lifespans(寿命) that are similar to humans, living for around 50 to 70 years.
