Task 1 (2×5=10分)

Read the passage and choose the appropriate letters A—D to answer each question.

You have been badly injured in a car accident. It is necessary to give you a blood transfusion (输血) because you lost a great deal of blood in the accident. However, special care must be taken in selecting new blood for you. If the blood is too different from your own, the transfusion could kill you.

There are four basic types of blood: A, B, AB and O. A single test can indicate a person’s blood type. Everybody is born with one of these four types of blood. Blood type, like hair color and height, is passed down from parents.

Because of substances contained in each type, the four groups must be transfused carefully. Basically, A and B cannot be mixed. A and B cannot receive AB, but AB may receive A or B. O can be given to any other groups; hence, it is often called the universal donor. For the opposite reason, AB is sometimes called the universal recipient. However, because too many reactions can happen in transfusions, patients usually receive only salt or plasma (血浆) until their blood can be matched as exactly as possible in the blood bank of a hospital. In this way, it is possible to avoid any bad reactions to the transfusion.

31. What would be the best title of this passage?

A) A Car Accident. B) Types of Blood. C) Blood Transfusion. D) Hospital Services.

32. What would happen to a patient who receives a different type of blood from his or her own?

A) He or she could die. B) His or her life could be saved. C) He or she could recover (痊愈) soon. D) He or she could not be killed. 33. Which of the following is true?

A) A person’s blood type can change with age.

B) A person’s blood type is determined by that of one’s parents. C) Many tests have to be done to find out a person’s blood type. D) A person might have more than one type of blood. 34. The “universal donor” in Para. 3 refers to ________.

A) Blood type A B) Blood type B C) Blood type AB D) Blood type O
