Imagine, one day, getting out of bed and being
at your office in Shanghai in only a couple of hours; and then, after a full day at work, going back home to Beijing and having dinner there.
Sounds unusual, doesn’t it? But it’s not that unrealistic, with the development of China’s high-speed railway system. Now it can take us about 5 hours to get to Guangzhou from Hebei, sooner or later 3 hours to Kunming or Changsha in some months. It’s easier for us to travel. And that's not all. China has even greater high-speed railway plan—to connect the counter with Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe. China is negotiating (协商) to extent its own high-speed railway network to up to 12 countries in 10 to 15 years, even reaching London and Singapore. If China's plan for the high-speed railway goes forward, people could zip (压缩) over from London to Beijing in under two days.
The new system would still follow China's high-speed railway standard. And the trains would be able to go 296 kilometers an hour, almost as fast as some airplanes.
China’s bullet train, the one connecting Wuhan to Guizhou, already has the World's fastest average speed. It covers 1,069 kilometers in about three hours. Of course, there are some technical changes to overcome. It's important to pay attention to every detail. It’ll be win-win project. For other countries, the railway network will definitely create more opportunities (机会) for business, tourism and so on, not to mention the better communication among those countries.
With high-speed trains, people will set up factories and business centers in the west once and for all (最终). And they’ll trade with Central Asian and Eastern European countries.
( A )21. From Beijing to Shanghai, you'll need a
couple of hours, it’s for you to achieve.
A. possible B. impossible C. unusual D. unrealistic
( D )22. How many hours do we need to arrive in
Guangzhou from Hebei now according to the passage?
A. Two hours. B. Three hours. C. Four hours. D. Five hours.
(D)23. Why does China have greater high-speed
railway plan?
A. To connect the counter with Southeast Asia. B. To connect the counter with Eastern Europe.
C. To connect the counter with Southeast Africa. D. A and B.
( B )24. How far is it from Wuhan to Guizhou, and
how many hours does it take?
A. 296 kilometers; 3 hours. B. 1,069 kilometers; 3hours.
C. 296 kilometers; 4 hours. D. 1,069 kilometers; 4hours.
(D)25. From the passage we can know . A. China is negotiating to extent its own high-speed railway network to up to 12 countries
B. The trains would be almost as fast as some airplanes
C. People will trade with Central Asian and Eastern European countries with high-speed trains D. Above all Ⅳ. 任务型阅读。
Is there a chocolate-powered racing car in the world? Hey! You have read too many children's books! But wait! Now, there is really such a racing car in the world. A team from a British university made it.
The chocolate-powered racing car’s engine
uses waste from chocolate factories or vegetable oil as fuel (燃料). Its body is made from potatoes, its steering wheel is made from carrots, its seat is made of soybeans, and its brake pads(刹车片)are made from nuts! Well, can this car run very fast? Certainly! It can go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds, and go as fast as 130 miles per hour. When the racing car is running, it cleans itself and lets out oxygen.
“It took us more than nine months to complete the racing car,” said a team member. “The car is really green. You can find many of the car’s parts at a farmer’s market or even in a litter bin
because most of the materials(材料) are waste in most people’s eyes. It’s fun.”
However, this eco-friendly (环保的) car cannot be driven in the official(正式的)race because of the engine’s unusual fuel.
